The BLUE BIO solution with an existing boiler

The client is a company in the wood sector with an existing 3MWth boiler installed in Northern Italy, which produces hot water.

Situation prior to intervention
The company used 5,000 tons of biomass (wood chips) composed of processed waste from its production process. The productions costs for this heat can be calculated as lost profits from the sale of biomass on the market of € 60.00 per tonne, which equals € 300,000 a year.

Proposed solution and post-intervention situation
Following a technical and economic analysis,Whitenergy identified the possibility of supplying heat to neighbouring civil users and thereby qualifying the company as a beneficiary of Blue Certificates. The Blue Certificates, which amount toto € 260,000 a year, allow the company to reduce its thermal energy production costs by 87%.
